Hello! My name is Gena and I am a recent graduate from New Mexico Highlands University where I obtained my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
My journey into the counseling field came by way of teaching middle and high school students for the past 14 years in a variety of art and ELA-based courses. It is through this work that I discovered I wanted to help children, adolescents, and adults become their best versions through individual, group and couples therapy. As a life-long resident of New Mexico, originally from the Southeast corner and then living in Albuquerque for the past 21 years, I am aware of our state’s values, beauty and authenticity.
I work primarily with children and adolescents using techniques found in play therapy, sandtray therapy, art therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I also accept adult clients and couples, working through unresolved trauma, grief and goals, meeting them where they are in each stage. I prefer to use a trauma-informed lens to provide an empathic perspective towards my clients as they tell their own story, go on their own journey and gain strengths to achieve their goals.
I live and work primarily in Albuquerque, NM with my two children, two dogs, two cats and loving partner.
