Akira Olsen, PsyD, MA (aka “DrAkira) is a board-certified clinical psychologist. She has 17+ years of clinical experience working with adolescents, parents, families, and adults in various San Francisco Bay Area settings, including community mental health clinics, schools, women’s and family shelters, telehealth clinics, and private practice. She worked as a clinical researcher, faculty, and clinical supervisor at Stanford University and Palo Alto University from 2018-2022.
She has extensive experience treating young adults and youths with Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, Trauma/PTSD, Motivation, life transitions, and family issues.
She was initially psychodynamically trained and has had training in various modalities including but not limited to:
Developmental psychology, Psychodynamic Therapy, Family Systemic therapy, Cognitive-behavior therapy, Child and Family therapy, Adolescent Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Neuropsychological Assessment, Humanistic/Existential therapy, Process-oriented psychotherapy, Somatic Psychotherapy, Trauma-informed CBT, Acceptance-Commitment Therapy, Emotion-focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Life Coaching, and Executive Coaching for young adult professionals with ADHD. She is certified in Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (Levels I & II).
Over the past two decades, she has participated in various Western and Eastern Buddhist meditation retreats.
She strives to provide client-centered, evidence-based, feedback-informed, culturally competent, developmentally appropriate, and individualized services to her clients.
She is bilingual in Japanese.
