My passion for this work comes from a desire to walk with people on their journeys to wellness. If you feel you are ready to work through the traumas you have experienced and are prepared to navigate your way towards a brighter future free from the shackles of the trauma triggers, then I am the therapist for you. My theoretical perspective includes Strengths-Based, Person-in-Environment, and Trauma-Informed. Simply put, this means that I believe all people have inherent strengths, that our environment, either past or present, plays a significant part in who we are, and that therapy should promote safety, choice, collaboration, trustworthiness, and empowerment.
I have been a registered social worker since 2017 and am currently completing my Master of Social Work degree with a clinical trauma-informed specialization. My work has been primarily with adult and adolescent survivors of sexual violence and grief and loss with children and adolescents. This work has taught me how to work with diverse presenting adaptations, including anxiety, depression, shame, guilt, flashbacks, dissociation, etc. I also have experience in crisis intervention, which is often solution-focused and allows me to give clients tangible tools they can use right away.
My current treatment approaches draw from components of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy (NT), Exposure Therapy (ET), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Additionally, I have training in the Flash Technique (FT), which utilizes eye movements or alternating tapping to resolve unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain and Internal Family Systems (IFS), which helps people heal by accessing and loving their protective and wounded inner parts. In January 2021, I will be completing Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) training. I am currently available Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Saturdays 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
