My philosophy of change rests on a lifetime of study and experiences with people and the miraculous power of the human spirit to continuously learn and seek guidance in transforming imbalanced relationships. It is my goal to help others transform their relationships when previous patterns, beliefs and solutions no longer work.
Referred to as systemic and narrative practice, it is a holistic, mind, body and spirit understanding. It holds that each person, family and each couple-ship together has most of the critical resources and strengths within themselves, their ability to learn and history of coping to change and fix the problem at hand.
I offer, not only an outside perspective and new strategies and interpretations but also an atmosphere without blame for understanding problems and prior patterns of interaction. Every body and every relationship has a history and a narrative about that history. I bring a fresh story that focuses on identifying what is effective and solution oriented in the system. The systems approach in a partnership of therapy has been found to be highly effective in the widest range of areas.
From Oregon State University, I received my Ph. D in Counseling Education, and have a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.
Special training includes advanced work in many of the schools of Systems Theory such as: Multi Systemic Treatment Model, Communications Model, Structural & Strategic, Solution Focused, and Narrative. Special training also includes child and youth work, Thought Field Therapy (T.F.T.), childhood traumas, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (E.M.D.R.) and clinical supervision. I have a commitment to participate in continuing education and continue to attend workshops and training as a both learner and presenter.
I have taught and continue to teach at the Graduate level, at several universities, training students who are working to become Professional Counselors or Marriage and Family Therapists. In addition, I supervise Professional Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists for state licensure.
Also of note:
I am a National Supervisor sanctioned by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT); a member of the Oregon Counseling Association (ORCA) and a previous President of ORCA (2004, 2005); a certified Consultant Level from EMDR International Association (EMDRIA); a recipient of Strathmore’s Who’s Who 2010; certified in Interpersonal Neurobiology from Portland State University.
