Rhian is an experienced virtual career coach, counsellor and post secondary mental health consultant. She completed a Bachelor of Business with specialty in Human Resources and hold a Master of Counselling Psychology Degree with honours in both degrees. She has supported clients in various capacities for almost ten years and is a Certified Canadian Counsellor. Rhian provides counselling on-line.
Rhian was a successful College Director when she realized her interest in mental health. She found herself helping students find resources in concerns from anxiety, diagnosis to domestic abuse. She decided to go back to school to obtain a Masters in Counselling Psychology while being a single mom of three young children and still working full-time. She created a mental health capacity building program for students during COVID that was used by 3000 students in Alberta.
She then went on to work with non-profit mental health agencies in regards to research on the peer support models and housing crisis.
She recently counselled at Simon House and created curriculums for Simon House Recovery centre to align with AHS. Each component has a mental health recovery and self discovery portion. She is working on new curriculums through Simon House to partner with agencies for families, women recovering from sexual abuse and with community churches.
Rhian helps people who are struggling to cope with difficult life changes/transitions and stressful situations/events that often lead people to have an overwhlemed nervous system and high anxiety. She is trained in trauma. She merges strength based methodology with solution focused Therapy to help people cope with the anxiety that comes with finding new crossroads in life. Rhian is an expert on Divorce and Breakup Recovery. She has been a divorce mentor, guiding people through the process of separation with a focus on a healthy transition prior to legal involvement.
Rhian has an abundance of experience dealing with court navigation, addictions, utilizing community resources for safety and security. She has lived experience of the effects of injury car accidents, mental health, addictions, divorce, emergency protection orders, family reunification, immigration, bullying, job loss, etc.
When she is not counselling, Rhian likes to spend time with loved ones, walking, doing self-care and travelling especially in good weather. She loves planning fun events with her three teenagers.
Two of her teenagers want to go into psychology in University (one already in first year) as it had such an impact on them when they were young. Their first $50 they made at age 5-8 was doing psychological testing and fun studies at the university with puppets, games and MRI machines.
Rhian believes preventative psychology should be fun. Her approach takes scheduling in self-care which includes rest, relaxation, restoration and expression. She is a big advocate of utilizing fellow professionals like acupuncture, massage, physio, chiropractic, etc to help release pain and restore.
